Dorje Drak Monastery, Shimla Overview
Dorje Drak Monastery sits in Panthaghati, about 8km from Shimla's railway station, well outside the usual Ridge-Mall circuit. Founded in 1984 by Taklung Tsetrul Rinpoche, it recreates one of Tibet's original "Six Mother Monasteries" of the Nyingma school, destroyed after the Chinese invasion, and now serves as the seat of the Nyingma sect's spiritual head.
