Chail, Shimla Overview
Chail is a small hill station about 44 km from Shimla, at an altitude of 2,250m, surrounded by pine and deodar forest. It's best known for the Chail Cricket Ground, the highest cricket ground in the world, built by the Maharaja of Patiala in 1893, and for Chail Palace, the Maharaja's former summer retreat that's now a heritage hotel. The area is also popular with hikers, with trekking routes via Kufri and Junga.
This place is famous for having the world's highest cricket and polo grounds and has a luxurious resort situated on three hilltops. Once the summer capital of the Patiala Kings, the palace has now been converted into a hotel and a tourist destination.
