Festung Hohensalzburg

Hohensalzburg Fortress, Salzburg Overview

Located on the top of Festungberg, Fortress Hohensalzburg is the biggest preserved castle in the whole central Europe. Along with being 900 years old and an epitome of rich Autrian history, the fortress offers some of the city's best panoramic views from atop the hill.

The 900 year old Hohensalzburg Fortress holds a great amount of histroic importance. This fortress lying high above the towers of the city, ornates the city skyline. Most tourists climb up the mountainous path up to the fortress to see a view of the city and the Salzach river like from nowhere else, however for those who do not want to walk - there is also a funicular railway from the downtown that runs every 10 minutes. The castle is a major concert hall with concerts happening at all times of the year. The fortress museum inside the castle is also open throughout the year.
