Residenzplatz is a stately square in the centre of Salzburg’s Altstadt (old town). It is located among prominent landmarks such as Salzburg Dom Cathedral and the Bishop’s palaces. The historic square is now a popular venue for many sports and music events and attracts scores of tourists.
It was , formerly known as Hauptplatz. The richly decorated and mesmerising Residenzbrunnen Fontana, or the Residence Fountain, stands in the centre of the square, overlooking the beautiful townhouses and Prince-Archbishop Wolf Dietrich’s baroque-style architecture.
