The Sanctuary of Truth is a 105-metre all-teak-wood structure north of Wongamat Beach, and Pattaya's most photographed landmark. Also called Satchatham Temple, it blends temple and palace architecture through intricately carved wood panels depicting Hindu and Buddhist mythology. Construction began in 1981 and is still ongoing: craftsmen continue carving and restoring sections today, so visitors are effectively touring a living workshop rather than a finished monument.
It was established by a local business tycoon with an aim to create a place of philosophy, art, culture and faith designed by the founder of the Ancient City at Samut Prakan Province, Lek Wiriyapan. The temple represents the soul and spirit of Eastern civilization and art through its impressive architectural work ornamented with sculptures of Hindu and Buddhist Gods and other mythological figurines. Built-in traditional style, the temple of truth exhibits peace and serenity and has been honoured with the award of Outstanding Tourist Attraction by the Tourism Industry Awards in 2008.
