Urakami Cathedral, Nagasaki Overview
Urakami was the centre of Japan's Catholic community and the bomb detonated almost directly above it, destroying what was then the largest church in East Asia. The present building dates from 1959. Inside is the scorched wooden head of a statue of Mary, recovered from the ruins, which is here rather than in the museum. Free.
