Day Trip to Norikura, Matsumoto Overview
A volcanic massif on the Nagano and Gifu border, with a highland of waterfalls and birch forest at its base and a shuttle bus that climbs to Tatamidaira just below the summit, one of the highest points in Japan reachable without walking. It turns colour earlier than almost anywhere else, from mid September. Shirahone Onsen, whose water runs milky white, is on the same road.
