Nakamachi Street, Matsumoto Overview
A merchant lane of white-walled kura storehouses with black lattice banding, built to resist the fires that repeatedly burned the town. They now hold craft shops, coffee houses and small galleries, and Matsumoto has a strong woodwork and textile tradition to fill them. Five to ten minutes from the castle, and the better of the town's two old streets for buying something.
