Located in Malate in Manila, Philippines, Manila Zoo (formerly known as Manila Zoological and Botanical Garden) is the 14 acre zoo which was opened on July 25, 1959. Sprawling over a huge area, the zoo boasts of a rich wildlife and is home to hundreds of species of birds, mammals and reptiles etc. The zoo also houses the Wildlife Rescue Centre which helps in rescuing the injured, sick and abandoned animals. In addition to that, it also has two aviaries. However, the star attraction or the highlight of the Manila Zoo is the Asian Elephant named Mali. Besides, it has several crocodiles, a separate goose section, peafowl, herons, an African veldt section, Bengal tiger, monitor lizard, Malayan civet, and hippopotamus etc.
Other than the rich wildlife and an exorbitant collection of species, the zoo has a botanical arboretum and a lush green garden boasting of the diverse native flora and fauna. Not only this, you can find several playgrounds and green spaces for kids to run around and enjoy themselves while you can relax. There are also several eateries to cater to your hunger pangs and souvenir shops from where you can pick up little knick knacks. The zoo is a popular spot of tourism and it attracts not just kids but also adults.
