Manila Zoo, Manila Overview

Located in Malate in Manila, Philippines, Manila Zoo (formerly known as Manila Zoological and Botanical Garden) is a 14-acre zoo boasting rich wildlife. The zoo also houses the Wildlife Rescue Centre, which helps rescue injured, sick, and abandoned animals. In addition to that, it also has two aviaries. The highlight of the Manila Zoo is the Asian Elephant named Mali.

Besides, it has several crocodiles, a separate goose section, peafowl, herons, an African veldt section, a Bengal tiger, a monitor lizard, a Malayan civet, and a hippopotamus, etc. Other than the rich wildlife and an exorbitant collection of species, the zoo has a botanical arboretum and a lush green garden boasting of the diverse native flora and fauna. You can walk around the quaint little pathways and soak in the serenity of nature. Or else, you can also rent a boat and spend some peaceful time in the lake paddling away. Not only this, you can find several playgrounds and green spaces for kids to run around and enjoy themselves while you can relax. There are also several eateries to cater to your hunger pangs and souvenir shops from where you can pick up little knick knacks. The zoo is a popular spot of tourism and it attracts not just kids but also adults.

  1. Wildlife Rescue Centre

    The Wildlife Rescue Centre is the highlight of the Manila Zoo which tends to the confiscated, donated, retrieved, harmed, injured, and abandoned wildlife species. It not only provides a shelter for these animals but also gives them medical attention.
  2. Botanical Garden

    The Botanical Garden is one of the most beautiful and picturesque part of the Zoo. Displaying a variety of diverse plant species, the garden also collects, cultivates and preserves the rare plant species. Replete with greenhouses and shadehouses, you must definitely visit the Botanical Garden whenever you visit the Manila Zoo.
  3. Arboretum

    The Arboretum is also more like a Botanical Garden with a diversity of trees and plant species. It basically contains a lot of woody trees and is a must visit when in the Zoo.
  4. Kinder Zoo

    Kinder Zoo is a 3000 sq. metres of area within the Manila Zoo that has been developed and constructed into a play area for kids. Opened on June 23rd, 2000, this child friendly zone is where the children can interact with the some of the animals in the zoo. Among the top areas in Kinder Zoo are butterfly sanctuary, a flamingo pond, a barn for events, a hanging bridge, and a petting zoo.

Tips

  1. To avail the discount on the tickets, you will have to carry ID with picture and address in Manila. 
  2. IDs that are acceptable include New TIN ID, Driver’s license, Voter’s ID, Barangay ID, UM ID, and School ID for Manila students only.

How to Reach

You can reach Manila Zoo in public transport from several places in the city. If you are travelling from Roosevelt, you can ride the LRT from Roosevelt or Monumento and get off at Quirino LRT Station. From Alabang, you can ride the bus bound for Lawton and then get off at Quirino LRT Station. From here you can ride the pedicab to reach Manila Zoo. Alternatively, you can also take a jeepney bound for A. Mabini and then alight near the zoo. Once you get off the jeepney, the zoo is just a walking distance away. From Baclaran also you can take a jeepney bound for Divisoria via A. Mabini. However, from Laguna it will take some extra time and effort, take a bus bound to Gil Puyat (buendia) LRT Station. But from here, you will have to hire a private taxi to the zoo.
