Pulau Ketam, Kuala Lumpur Overview

Pulau Ketam Island is a great place for family outings in Malaysia. Popularly known as the Crab Island, Palau Ketam houses several attractions like local Chinese temples, a breathtaking beach, local food joints and several others. This island houses two major settlements namely Pulau Ketam Village and Sungai Lima Village.

Situated off the Klang coast, this island is a great place to visit if you wish to escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. This is because motor vehicles are forbidden on the island. You can either walk or ride a bicycle to commute on the island. Pulau Ketam is also a paradise for sea-food lovers. While the island is home to several crabs and marine creatures, it also offers some of the most sumptuous local sea-food delicacies that are truly satiating. How to Reach Pulau Ketam

The only way to reach Pulau Ketam is by boat. Several boats and ferries from Port Klang head towards Pulau Ketam.

Sea Food at Pulau Ketam

Pulau Ketam houses several sea-food joints which offer local lip-smacking delicacies. If you wish to dine at a restaurant, you need to visit the main street of the village. While the main street houses several seafood restaurants, you can also enjoy a meal at the street-food joints blooming with traditional flavours. Pulau Ketam is quite famous for its oyster omelettes.

Tips

  • It is advisable to take a ferry jetty from the South port. The ferry jetty is shaped like a torpedo, resting at a low level in the water body. While the ride is quite enjoyable, it also helps you to save travel time.
  • It is advisable to rent a bicycle during your visit. Motor vehicles are forbidden on the island; hence it is easier to commute via bicycle.
  • Electrical bicycles (approximate cost): RM 20 (per hour)
  • Children and inexperienced cyclists must take extra precautions while cycling since the island houses several narrow pathways.
  • Try to plan your visit during weekdays since the island is quite crowded on weekends.
  • Visit a local store if you wish to bag some dried fish or local sea-food items.
  • Be on the lookout for street-shops where you might be able to find attractive souvenirs such as t-shirts or key chains.
  • It is advisable to book a homestay if you wish to spend an entire day on the island.
