Islamic Arts Museum, Kuala Lumpur Overview

The Islamic Art Museum of Malaysia has an extensive collection of ancient Islamic artifacts and books from the Middle East, the birthplace of Islam. Located at the brink of Lake Gardens, this museum is the largest of its kind in Southeast Asia. Spanning 30,000 square meters, it is adorned with Islamic patterns and houses more than 7000 artifacts.

The gallery is divided into 12 themes and displays reflecting that particular section's theme. Along with the Middle East – India, China, and Malaysia also have their own separate sections at the museum. Visitors can also taste traditional Middle Eastern meals at the Museum restaurant.

Galleries at Islamic Arts Museum

There are 12 permanent galleries at the museum.

Architecture: It features models of Islamic architecture, prominently mosques, from Africa to the Far East. Distinguished models are Taj Mahal and Masjid al-Haram, Mecca
Quran & Manuscripts: This houses the Quran and other ancient manuscripts that exhibit skills of fine workmanship.
India: The Mughal Empire in India is revered for its contribution to the Islamic world in India.
China: It showcases calligraphic scrolls and artifacts from the Islamic Culture.
Malay World: Wood Carvings and textiles are the prominent artifacts in this section.
Jewelry: Various displays of Indian inspired jewelry sets made from diamond and ruby are on exhibition.
Textiles: It features a world-class collection of wall coverings and rugs.
Arms & Armor: Decorated swords and weapons of war are on display in this gallery.
Coins & Seals: This gallery of Islamic Arts Museum records coins and other government seals that date back to several centuries.
Metalwork: Brass and Bronze artefacts make up most of the items in this gallery.
Ceramics: Calligraphic bowls and Ottoman Iznik ceramics are on display.
Living with Wood: Skilled workmanship can be seen in each of these precisely detailed carvings and geometric patterns.

Auditorium: The auditorium at Islamic Arts Museum is supplied with the latest projection technology and has a seating capacity of 250 people. It is used for lectures and other corporate events as its spacious auditorium along with ample parking make it a preferable place for social gatherings.

Inverted Dome Pavilion: The Inverted Dome is one of the most breathtaking monuments at the Islamic Arts Museum. Its exceptional design and the precise details of the dome is a sight to behold. The opening verses of the Quran are inscribed on the rim with Gold.

How to Reach Islamic Arts Museum

The Islimc Arts Museum is a five-minute walk from the National Mosque.

Take the KTM commuter and get down at Old Railway Station, from there, its a few minutes’ walk to the museum.

Use the LRT to get down at Pasar Seni Station, the museum is a ten-minute walk from the station.
