Perjuangan Rakyat Jatinegara, Jakarta Overview
Perjuangan Rakyat Jatinegara or Jatinegara Struggle Monument was built to honour the people who struggled during Indonesia's war for independence in Jatinegara. The monument is a statue showing a man standing with a rifle in his arms, a backpack on his back and carrying weapons on his waist, ready to fight. Another statue of a boy in shorts is shown with a catapult around his neck.
The Jatinegara Struggle Monument was inaugurated in 1982 and took over 2 years to finish the monument. There are rest areas, restaurants, a shopping centre, and more amenities in and around the monument.
