Santo Fransiskus Asisi

The Santo Fransiskus Assisi Elementary School was founded in 1966 under the guidance of the Archbishop of Jakarta, who saw the need for an educational institution to improve services to the people of Jakarta, specifically the South Jakarta Region. This Roman Catholic elementary school's claim to fame has been one of its attendees, former US president and prominent political figure Barack Obama, who attended the same for two years during his time in Jakarta.

The parish here built its school before its church. A Capuchin priest, Bartholomeus Theo Janssen, gathered the community in 1965, the school's cornerstone was laid in November 1966, and the first Mass was said that same month for about sixty people. Work on the church began only in 1974, when Archbishop Leo Soekoto laid its cornerstone, and the finished building was blessed on 4 October 1975 to a design by F. Kosman. It keeps relics of Padre Pio, and has a prayer garden and an adoration chapel.
