It is wise to take Route 1 as the roads on this route permit you to drive smoothly at a speed of 100 kmph and less traffic might help you save a lot of time. Carry a camera since the view is very scenic bearing mountains and attractive landscapes.

Road Condition

The Udaipur- Jodhpur route is well laid. Do keep an eye out for blind curves. The road condition is great when you travel from Jodhpur to Pokhran. However, the condition starts to deteriorate a little when you cross Pokhran bypass.

Eating Options on the Way

There are several good restaurants along all the three routes. In case you are traveling during the day time by Jodhpur Jaisalmer Rd, you must take a halt for lunch at the Highway Konig Restaurant. This restaurant has a great view and can accommodate a large group of people. They offer vegan options and gluten free options along with full-fledged Indian food. Panihari is a multi-cuisine restaurant that offers late night services too. The food is excellent and the staff is extremely cordial. And then there is Hungry Fast Food and Pizzeria for those of you who cannot survive without eating junk food.

The Jaisalmer Railway Junction, located 2 km eastwards of the city is widely connected to major cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Jaipur, Jodhpur and more. However, there are no direct trains from Udaipur to Jaisalmer. You can travel from Udaipur to Ajmer in a train and then opt for roadways to reach Jaisalmer. All these trains have Ajmer as an intermediate station. You can board a train from Udaipur City Junction or Ranapratapnagar.

One can hire cabs or go by bus from Ajmer to Jaisalmer.

The State doesn’t ply any Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation buses directly from Udaipur to Jaisalmer. You will have to invariably avail the services of the private agencies providing buses to travel to and fro. There are at least 5 buses provided by different agencies daily from Udaipur to Jaisalmer.

The major boarding terminals in Udaipur are M-5 Sub City Centre, Menaria guest house, Pratap Nagar, Sevasharam and LIC road. The arrival point for all the buses is the Jaisalmer Bus Depot.
There are several types of buses that ply from Udaipur to Jaisalmer. These buses are distinct in their categories and styles.

The buses commonly preferred by travellers are the Non AC Seater, Non AC Sleeper, AC Seater and AC Sleeper. You have the liberty to choose one from the many categories available as per your travel interest. The first bus leaves from Udaipur at 8:00 PM and the last bus departs at 9:15 PM from the Shrinath Travel Agency Bhuwana bypass.
