Kadoorie Farms and Botanical Gardens, Hong Kong Overview
Kadoorie Farms & Botanical Garden, formerly known as Kadoorie Experimental and Extension Farm, is one of the most spectacular places for nature and animal lovers in Hong Kong. Situated on the top of one of the highest mountain peaks of Hong Kong - Tai Mo Shan, it is a wildlife and botanical sanctuary and conservatory which promises the visitors a worthwhile peaceful time in the lap of nature.
The Kadoorie Farms provides the visitors not only a glimpse of bountiful gardens, house flowers and animals but also is equipped with waterfalls, picnic spots, heritage sites and beautiful walking trails for the visitors. This hidden jewel of Hong Kong is also an education centre which focuses on three main programmes - Sustainable Living, Holistic Education and Nature Conservation - thereby trying to provide ways of harmonious existence between humans and nature.

Kadoorie Farms Weekend Guided Tours
The weekend tours are open to the public and are given by trained Nature Education Facilitators.
Number of people: This tour happens on weekends and a group of minimum 40 participants is needed.
Cost: The fee for the tour is: 5 to 11 years – HKD5; 12 to 59 years – HKD10; below 5 years, above 60 years and disabled – free entry.
How to Book: The ticket can be bought from the registration centre and there are four tours scheduled per day.

Kadoorie Farms and Botanic Garden Attractions
Education Display of Animals: This display portrays different types of animals and includes butterfly gardens, pigsties, reptile lookout, sun garden animal exhibit, wildlife pond, insect house, parrot sanctuary, monkey haven, wildlife animal rescue centre, mules stables amongst others. It is a wonderful experience for those who love animals and are looking for a wildlife walkthrough.
Education Display of Plants: This display includes fruit forests, the Gloria Baretto Orchid Sanctuary, a fern walkway path, cactus greenhouse and the butterfly garden which houses different types of flowers.
Picnic Areas: This includes the Plaza (a garden which displays the sculptures of Horace Brothers) and is surrounded by orchids and trees, Cascade Garden, Covent Garden, Golden Pavilion, Dragon Pavilions and Little Falls amongst others. These places are perfect for the visitors to take a lunch or snack break and rejuvenate while being surrounded by the tranquil nature.
Heritage Sites and Viewpoints: Some of the famous heritage sites are Kadoorie Brothers Memorial Pavilion, Kwun Yum Shan Summit (the ancient altars were the farmers come to seek the blessings of Kwun Yum Shan, the goddess of peace, prosperity and fertility for bountiful harvests), the post office pillars (from where one can see the expansive view of the wildlife sanctuary and observe the rescues birds), hot pots (visitors can bask near the hot water streams and can warm themselves, especially during the winter). The visitors must drop in at Farm Museum and Farm Shop as it offers fresh farm produce and other organic products along with books and magazines.
Low Carbon Living Exhibits: Sun Garden Café is must visit when you go to KFBG as it serves fresh vegetarian meals and snacks along with delicious drinks. Eco-Garden and One-Dou Farm is a paradise for every gardening lover as it showcases the elements needed for successful gardening – fertile soil, seeds, pest and weed control, good irrigation system and how everything can be done naturally without the use of chemicals. Peak Oil Exhibit is another interesting project as it portrays the tipping point of global oil production and how it has serious implications.

Treasure Hunt
Treasure hunt is one of the most happening activities at Kadoorie Farms and Botanic Garden and is both entertaining and informative. The hunt is organised in two parts of the sanctuary – either in the lower area or the lower, upper and middle area. All the contestants are provided with booklet and thy have 12 checkpoints where they have to carry out the specified tasks. In order to be a part of the treasure hunt, an online application form needs to be filled which is available on the official KFBG website.
Shuttle Service
Since the sanctuary is very expansive (spread over 48 hectares), the visitors should make use of the shuttle services provided by the KFBG staff. The total travelling time for each tour is of 1 hour 30 minutes. The shuttle leaves from the Reception Area at four different time slots and waits at each stop for 15 minutes.

How To Reach Kadoorie Farms and Botanic Garden
Bus: Take the bus number 64K which runs between Tai Po and Yuen Long (West) and get down at the Kadoorie Farms Bus Stop. (20 - 25 minutes ride)
Train: From the Eastern part of the city, take the train to the Tai Wo or Tai Po Market. Take the 64K bus from there which runs between Tai Po and Yuen Long (West) and get down at the Kadoorie Farms Bus Stop.
