February is the wettest month, with January and March close behind. Summer here is the storm season: humid afternoons, heavy downpours and the occasional ex-cyclone rain event.
The trade-off is the water. The winter ocean sits around 21°C, cool but swimmable, against about 26°C in February. So the best weather and the warmest sea are in different halves of the year.
December to January is the peak, with Australian school holidays and Christmas, and Schoolies fills Surfers Paradise with school leavers from late November. Brisbane is an hour north.
