Palolem beach, Goa Overview

A stretch of beautifying white sand, Palolem Beach, located in the South Goa is one of the most fabulous beaches the Union Territory has to offer. Goa indeed is a home to beaches giving out the coolest vibes, but this beach is renowned for maintaining its serene atmosphere. Mostly unspoiled, the beach is often flocked with foreign tourists. The Palolem Beach has been featured in the film The Bourne Supremacy (2004) as the Goan residence of Jason Bourne (Matt Damon) also highlighting its natural beauty. Visiting the beach gives you a chance to spend time among the bamboo beach huts and palm trees layed over a sandy stretch of 1.5 km. Moreover, a refreshing dip into the shades of sapphire is something you call an unimaginable and unforgettable experience.

Palolem wasn't well known back in 1980's with only a few hippies as the visitors staying on the island for months. However, as the beach gained popularity, the place became flooded with tourists from all over the world making it one of a most happening holiday destination. The beach is a natural bay flanked by lofty headlands on either side. This leads to the gorgeous beach in South Goa adorned with serene surroundings and gently sloping bed of sand to stroll upon. It has about one-mile longshore in crescent shape crowded by fishermen and tourist of all nationalities. During the season, one will find the beach packed with shacks, hawkers, restaurants, and eating outlets. If you are lucky, you can also spot Dolphins cavorting in the bay. However, the beauty of the beach is unparalleled with tree covered rocks at one end, mainly known as Green Island.

Activities at Palolem Beach

A spree to outdoor activities, Palolem is a fun-filled destination in Goa. The location of the beach is ideal enough to make tourists sprawl to its white sandy lands. Here are a few bunch of activities that you can do besides relaxing under coconut palms.

1. Swimming 
If you are looking for a good swim, the northern end of the beach is perfect for the activity being the shallowest and current not so fast making it ideal for average swimmers. Gradually, the depth keeps on increasing as we move towards the south.

2. Scuba Diving
How wonderful would it be to find yourself among the vibrant shades of blue? Indeed very! Try your chance and dive into the waters of Palolem as you visit the beach. 

3. Kayaking
As the beach finds itself in a cove, the waters here are quite peaceful hence you can have a great kayaking adventure. Moreover, it's always useful to explore the sea. A quick suggestion, hire a kayak during the morning time so that you get a chance to imbibe the tranquillity of waters in its best form. Usually, it costs INR 300 per hour.

4. Dolphin Spotting
Try your luck, hire a boat and go for Dolphin spotting. An hour trip costs INR 800, so it would be feasible to tag along with a group. Again, visiting in the morning might bring you some fortune!

5. Turtle Spotting
In India, there are only two places where you can find Olive Riddley Turtles, one being the Gahirmatha rookery in Orissa while the other being Palolem Beach. Pick these babies and leave them into the waters of Arabian Sea.

Shopping at Palolem Beach

Watch out as you hover around the beach, Tibetan jewellery and beachy clothes might be a threat to your pocket! The Palolem market undoubtedly deserves the words of appreciation. Comparatively bigger than that of at other beaches, the market here showcases Tibetan handicrafts, following the showpieces made of sea shells, and quite an excellent collection of cool clothes. The market is lively and attracts many tourists irrespective of the season. Furthermore, the music, spice, and garment shops here would surely give you some hippie feels. So now you have this beautiful beach with a silent night party and some amazing stuff to shop!

Restaurants at Palolem Beach

When it comes to eating with the view of a beach in front of your eyes, you have many street stalls at the beach itself. You obviously would not want to let go of a chance to try on the delicious authentic Goan food. From bhelpuri to seafood you get everything at these stalls. How to Reach Palolem beach

You can take a bus from Margao Bus Stand to Canacona or Palolem. This journey usually takes 90 minutes and costs Rs. 40. After reaching the Canacona bus station, you can take a taxi or an autorickshaw to reach Palolem Beach which is situated only at a distance of 3 km. 
If you want to make your journey more exciting you can hire bike or mopeds to hover around the roads surrounded with lush green palm trees.

Tips

Here are a few things that you should probably keep in mind while visiting the Palolem Beach-
1. Do not forget to apply sunscreen. Getting rid of suntans is a tough job!
2. Carry your swimwear, sunscreen lotion and sunglasses with you.
3. Make sure to stay away from water during monsoon season and follow all the given guidelines by the authority.
