Best Time to Visit Lake Batur

The altitude of Kintamani which is on a plateau increases the occurrence of rain showers and thick fog enveloping the area which usually are a common phenomenon in the late afternoon. Thus, the ideal time to visit Danau Batur is from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM.

Mount Batur Volcanic Eruptions

Formed as a result of an eruption in 1917, Mt. Batur is still active where the second volcanic cone which has several open vents from which eruptions often take place. Since 1917, Mt. Batur has had three major episodes of eruption where the formation of new sub caters has seen a shift towards the west direction. These sub-caters are referred to as Batur I, II and III. The important point to note here is that with each eruption, the size of lake Batur has been gradually decreasing.

How To Reach Danau Batur

Presently, there is no facility for public transportation to reach Lake Batur. Hence, the recommended mode of transportation is hiring a private vehicle, either a four-wheeler or a two-wheeler. There are numerous local rental service providers.

While tourists usually choose to stay in the southern part of the island, the journey from there till Lake Batur nearly takes 2.5 hours.
