SkyCity Auckland, Auckland Overview

SkyCity Auckland is an entertainment centre located in Auckland City, New Zealand. It is a premier event centre situated in the bustling central business district of the city. It occupies several levels of the Sky Tower, the city’s telecommunication and observation tower, and provides a variety of activities and services that visitors can choose from to entertain and pamper themselves. This is the only attraction in Auckland City that has an operating casino. The place is suitable for those looking for a luxury getaway in and around the city. SkyCity or the Sky Tower has a number of other facilities and services that travellers can enjoy when they visit the city. It has a luxurious ambience and consists of a theatre, several restaurants and bars, a convention centre, a casino/ gaming zone and a couple of luxury hotels where travellers can put themselves up if they are planning to spend a few days in the city.

  • At SkyCity Auckland, one can find a variety of activities to participate in. There are events, workshops etc. arranged to suit every age group. The management keeps changing their event calendar so, it is recommended that visitors check well in advance and purchase their tickets.
  • Some of the frequently scheduled activities include Yoga Workshops, Masterclasses, Snow Globe for children, Live Sports Match Screenings, Bingo, Whiskey Nights, Free Movies for Kids, Meal Deals, Fun Day, Sunday Winning Tickets, Video Games etc.
  • SkyCity also arranges for contest, draws and competitions that people can enter and win cash awards or freebies.
  • Here, travellers can also find a number of restaurants and bars.
  • At present, the place has 14 restaurants that serve delicious cuisine coming from different parts of the World. These restaurants are Huami, Masu by Nic Watt, Gusto at The Grant, The Grill by Sean Connolly, The Sugar Club, Orbit 360ᵒ Dining, Fortune Buffet Restaurant, Depot, Federal Delicatessen, Spice Alley, Andy’s Burger and Bar, Bellota by Peter Gordon, Sammy’s Lounge and Sky Café.
  • Five out of these places also have fully stocked bars and serve a variety of drinks. Every now and then, SkyCity also has discounts on dining out and free services to the customers.  
  • Visitors can also head to the top of the Sky Tower for a 360ᵒ panoramic view of the city and observe the up to 80 kilometres of the cityscape and natural terrain surrounding the attraction. They can dine at one of the three restaurants that are located on the top level of the tower for a great dining experience along with the view.
  • The facility also has arrangements for adventure activities like Sky Jump and Sky Walk.
  • Sometimes, workshops are arranged on the top levels of the tower for a thrilling experience.
  • Entry to the Sky Tower is charged and visitors can choose to purchase a one-time entry ticket, a family pass or an annual pass.

Best Time to Visit

There is no specific time or season to visit SkyCity as the place is open all days of the week, during all seasons except on these public holidays - Good Friday, Christmas and ANZAC’s Morning. Travellers coming to Auckland may, however, choose to visit the city between December and February. This is the most ideal time to explore the city when the minimum temperature remains around 14ᵒC and the maximum around 24ᵒC. The city also receives the least amount of rainfall during these months.

How To Reach SkyCity Auckland

  • SkyCity Auckland is located in the central business district, between two major streets in the city, Federal Street and Victoria Street. People coming in from nearby cities can rent a cab or board a bus heading to Auckland.
  • Public transport also makes commuting within the city very convenient. These consist of train, bus and ferry services that are coordinated by Auckland Transport and AT Metro.
  • Travellers taking a flight to the city can take a cab from the Auckland International Airport which is located 25 kilometres away.
  • The route leading to the attraction from the airport goes through George Bolt Memorial Drive – South Western Motorway – Waterway Connection Road – Twin Coast Highway/ SH 16/ North Western Motorway – Nelson Street/ Whangarie – Nelson Street – Victoria Street West.
