Butler Bay Beach, Andaman Overview

Butler Bay Beach is located in Little Andaman on the South Andaman Island. This vast expanse of yellow sand and crystal clear waters was once the most popular beach destination in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. However, after the grave tsunami in 2004, the beach has become more desolate and isolated. Despite the recent tragedy, the beach has not lost its charm in the least and still holds the title of the best surfing spot in the whole of India. The clear waters, which are perfect for many activities along with surfing, mesh with the beautiful and unspoilt yellow sands to create a beach that can only be seen in pictures. The hoard of events can also be perused according to the visitor’s whim. All round, Butler Bay Beach is a perfectly safe and beautiful beach that accurately captures the essence of the Andaman Islands.

Activities in Butler Bay Beach

Butler Bay Beach is known for the surfing opportunities and the high waves and strong currents which is the perfect mix for surfers. However, the beach is much more than that. The waters can be used for snorkelling at low tide, which is ideal with weak currents and clear visibility of the colourful world below the surface of the water. Swimming can also be a great choice, however, this part of the island is not meant for non- professional swimmers so individuals should keep caution. Boating is also frequently done on this beach along with other water sports.

The Butler Bay Beach also has a concave shoreline, which means that standing anywhere on the beach’s shore would give you a clear view of the entire beach. This makes for an immensely gratifying stroll atop the soft sand of the beach. One activity that you should absolutely not miss is visiting the White Surf Waterfall which is located in the same area as the Butler Bay Beach and comes highly recommended. The Kalapathar Limestone Caves are also one and a half kilometre (10 minutes walk) away from the Butler Bay Beach and can be a fulfilling addition to your itinerary. Aside from this, you will also find activities such as visiting the coconut plantation, jungle trekking and elephant rides in the vicinity.

Best Time to Visit

Butler Bay Beach, like all other places in Andaman, has pleasant weather throughout the year. However, the monsoon season, which is the months of June to September are generally avoided as the waters can be quite dangerous, and the rain is extremely heavy during these months.

The closest airport to Butler Bay Beach is Port Blair. Additionally, Butler Bay Beach is 14 kilometres away from the Hut Bay Jetty.

Hotels and hut accommodations are available nearby so individuals need not worry about their stay. Carrying excessive food or water is also not required.
