Altes Rathaus,

Old City Hall, Salzburg, Salzburg Overview

The Old City Hall is the former town hall where the municipal government was located before it moved to Schloss Mirabell. Altes Rathaus features attractions such as the Hall of Pillars, the City Gallery, the Bürgergarde collection, the Kulstrunk Panorama and the meeting rooms.

The building, with its Rocco Facade and iconic Bell Tower, has 800 years of eventful history. It was built in the 14th century, and the first Mayor or “Khuezlturm”, was appointed soon after. The Town Hall gradually lost significance with the beginning of the Prince-Archbishops' era. It was used for a variety of purposes, such as dance events. The city clerk, midwife and preacher also had their quarters here.
