The months of May, June, October, November and December are considered to be the shoulder season to visit Los Angeles. There are multiple activities in the city like Christmas and New Year celebrations in December, Halloween in October, many other parades and events happening all around the city. Many tourists can be seen wandering around the city during these months.

The months of January, February, July and August are supposed to be the offseason for Los Angeles. Although these months might have bad weather like heavy rains in February, the city has still got a lot to offer. January attracts a lot of Chinese tourists for the Chinese New Year; tourists also flock to L.A. to celebrate the 4th of July. You shouldn’t think twice before heading to L.A. during these months either but carry your raincoat.

Starting from March, lasting till October is considered as the dry season in Los Angeles. This is the peak season to visit L.A. because of clear skies and warm and pleasant temperatures. The humidity gets high during a few months, but it’s not uncomfortable for exploring the city. The temperatures throughout these months range between 21 to 26-degree Celsius.Tourists flock to L.A. from all over the world during these months for either sunbathing or surfing at the beach or letting their inner child out at Disneyland. Hotels and resorts get booked quickly, so you should make bookings in advance. Flights might get expensive for March, April, September and October, so make sure to book them in advance too.

Events and Festivals in the Dry Season

• The spring flowers bloom in March, and the best way to experience it is to head to the Antelope Valley Poppy Preserve.
• June hosts one of the biggest Gay Pride parades of California when the entire city turns into a celebration.
• The Los Angeles film festival also takes place during June and film enthusiasts from all over the world flock to L.A.
• The Venice Beach Music Festival, LA Taco Festival, Long Beach Jazz Festival, Surfing Festival, Los Angeles County Fair, and who can forget - Halloween! all of these takes place from August to October.

November to February is the ‘wet’ season in Los Angeles. The beginning of November is said to kick off the winter rains in L.A. This does not mean it rains everyday or that you can see storms. The temperatures in November and December range between 18-degree Celsius, while January and February see it drop down to 12 degrees. November and December still see many bright days and pleasant temperatures. Late December to February gets cold, gloomy and rainy. Tourists and locals usually avoid hanging by the beach or visiting theme parks during the wet season and prefer to enjoy the indoor activities of Los Angeles. Flights, hotels and resorts offer some great deals during the off months of January and February, so you should not miss out on that. Of course, don’t forget your raincoats for the wet season!

Events and Festivals in the Wet Season

• You can go Gray Whale watching in November from the coastlines of L.A. since that’s when they migrate.
• In December the L.A. streets are still packed with tourists who come to celebrate Christmas and New Years. Parties, parades like the Rose Bowl parade, and many other quirky celebrations can be seen popping up all across the city.
• The Chinese and Vietnamese New Year takes place in January, so despite the cold and rains, locals and visitors can be seen out in the city celebrating with joy during those days.
