Kato Shrine, Kumamoto Overview
A shrine inside the castle park to Kato Kiyomasa, the general who built the castle and who is still treated locally as the city's founding figure. It is free, and the reason to walk up is the angle: from its grounds you get the keep and the Uto Yagura turret in the same frame, which you cannot do from the paid route. Five minutes from the castle entrance.
