Day Trip to Takachiho Gorge, Kumamoto Overview
A narrow canyon of columnar basalt cut by the Gokase river, where Manai Falls drops straight into the water and visitors row beneath it. This is the landscape of the Japanese creation myth, and Takachiho Shrine performs kagura dances nightly. Name it carefully when you search: there is a second Takachiho in Kagoshima. Boat rental suspends after heavy rain, so have a fallback.
