Sakuranobaba Josaien, Kumamoto Overview
A recreated Edo townscape of about 20 shops and restaurants at the foot of the castle walls, plus a free history hall that covers the castle's construction and the Satsuma Rebellion. Entry costs nothing. It exists mainly to feed castle visitors, which is exactly what makes it useful: this is where lunch happens on a castle day, and the horse sashimi and karashi renkon are local rather than generic.
