Suizenji Jojuen Garden, Kumamoto Overview
A stroll garden begun in 1636 by the Hosokawa lords, laid out to compress the 53 post stations of the old Tokaido road into one circuit of hills and ponds, with a grass mound standing in for Mount Fuji. Spring water fills the pond directly. It is the finest garden in Kyushu, it takes about 40 minutes to walk, and at 500 yen it is the easy counterweight to a morning at the castle.
