Machia Biological Park, Jodhpur Overview

Machia Biological Park is an essential part of the agenda for nature lovers travelling to Jodhpur. Located about 8.5 km from the city, this biological wonderland is a part of the vast Machia forest block, situated close to the Kaylana Lake. It is a host to varied species of flora and fauna as well as a nature interpretation centre and the Machia Fort. Along with the enclosures for the animals, one can also find a birdwatching point, proof of the site's fantastic biodiversity.

The premises houses a veterinary hospital for maintaining the well-being of the animals inside. Elephant riding may be availed by travellers for a small fee. There is also a bird watching point for bird lovers. A nature interpretation centre has been set up for those seeking an in-depth experience of the ecology and biodiversity. The Machia fort can also be found here, which offers some breathtaking views from the top, especially during sunset. The Kaylana Lake is quite close to this area, and there is a viewpoint within the premises to observe the lake.

It is home to multiple wild animals such as the deer, desert fox, monitor lizard, rabbits, feral cats, gazelles, mongooses, tortoises, etc. Management is consistently on the lookout for suitable additions to the park. There are a total of 20 enclosures within the park. There are walkways constructed around the park for visitors to witness the various animals in their natural habitats. One can also find a variety of arid vegetation maintained within the site. For those who do not prefer a lot of physical activity, motor vehicles are available for use.

History

Conceptualised in 1983, the park serves as a satellite zoo for the Jodhpur Zoo, established by Maharaja Umaid Singh in 1935. The management of the zoo has been entrusted with the forest department of the Rajasthan Government since 1956. 41 hectares of the 604-hectare area of the Machia forest block has been used for this ecological wonderland.

Habitat

The area is mainly rocky, made up of Rhyolite. There is low soil depth within the region. The natural vegetation is a dry scrub forest as is common in the desert, with trees such as Khor, Khejri, Babul, Karir, Jharber, Guggul, etc.These trees can survive in scanty rainfall as is characteristic of this region. Roads have been created with as little disturbance as possible to facilitate movement of visitors through the premises.

Wildlife

This park is home to desert foxes, common foxes, jungle cats, desert cats, monitor lizards, porcupines, spiny-tailed lizards, hedgehogs, crocodiles, gavials, spotted deer, black bucks, gazelles, royal Bengal tigers, Asiatic lions, leopards, tortoises, rabbits, and mongooses. Further plans are being made to add jackals, hyenas, and sloth bears.

In addition to entry charges, visitors are required to pay INR 80 for the use of a still camera and INR 200 for the use of a video camera

How To Reach Machia Biological Park

The closest bus stop is Aakhaliya Chouraha Bus Stop, which is 4 and a half kilometres from the park. Taxis and auto-rickshaws may be used to arrive at this destination. For a more scenic route, one can take Chopasni road, which runs across the length of Kaylana Lake to the venue. This is a longer journey though.

today I visited Machia safari Park, it is requested that Jodhpur is suncity so there is very hot in summer. Kindly change the time of visiting from 7 AM with all staff on duty because today I purchas (Read More)ed ticket at 08.24 Hrs and the get to animals and birds was closed upto 08.30Hrs, Battery car was not available that time.
