Pune to Diu

Diu does not have its own railway station, and the nearest railhead from Diu is Veraval located approx. 95 kms away. Veraval has functional rail connectivity with various parts of the country. It is convenient to board a train for Veraval and further take a bus or taxi to Diu, which would be a 2-hour journey. There is also a direct train from Pune for Veraval, apart from which there are several multi-leg or chain trains available to Veraval.

There are no direct buses connecting Pune to Diu, and as such you need to take a bus for nearby routes and then change bus to reach Diu. For example - you can take a bus to Mumbai from Pune and from Mumbai you can quickly get direct buses for Diu. The distance between Mumbai and Diu is approximately 822 kms and takes roughly around 19 hours to complete the journey. There are daily eight buses operating from Mumbai for Diu. It is a tremendous adventurous drive on smooth, fast laned roads offering some great views and experiences. Route Options

The popular route options for driving to Diu from Pune are as follows;

Route 1: Via NH48: Pune - Navi Mumbai - Mumbai - Vapi - Navsari - Bharuch - Vadodara - Bhavnagar - Diu. This is the fastest route taking 17 hrs 39 min.

Route 2: Via NH 60: Pune - Chandwad - Malegaon - Dhule - Shirpur - Sendhwa - Barwani - Chota Udepur - Vadodara - Anand - Vataman - Pipali - Adhelai - Vallabhipur - Kandhi - Diu. This is a longer route at approx 1,119 km and takes approx 23 hr to complete.   

Eating Options

There is no shortage of eating options available along the highway. Some of the plentiful dhabas and restaurants offer great food at affordable prices. Some of the famous highway dhabas you can consider stopping at including Parsi Da Dhaba in Varwade on NH 48 before Navsari, and Ekta Restaurant and Banquet in Anand among others.  

Possible Stopover

One can consider halting at Ahmedabad or Vadodara and start the onward journey fresh the next morning.

Road Conditions

Road condition throughout the Pune - Diu route is more or less good. There are quite a few toll plazas to be found along the way. There are fuel pumps every few kilometres as well.

There are no direct flights between Pune and Diu. The available multi-city route flights are too time-consuming as they take a minimum of 22 hours to reach DIU. However, there is one non-stop flight available between Mumbai and Diu operated by Air India. This flight departs for Diu at 8:35 AM and can cost INR 5000 onwards. 

Preferable Local Transportation from Diu Airport

Diu Airport is located 8 kms from the city centre. Taxis and auto-rickshaws stationed outside the airport can be availed to reach the city.
