Also known as Baan Silapin and Khlong Bang Luang, the Artist's House as it is popularly called, is an age-old building that has now been transformed into a beautiful art gallery. It is both a favourite among the locals and a great hit among tourists. The art gallery is at least 200 years old as it sits and shines in its creativity, along the canal. It is s also famous for the extremely entertaining Thai Puppet Show.

The Artist's House used to be a family house that has been preserved and maintained with much care. Its neighbourhood is a place to sit back and relax with a book or to just seep in the beauty of the creative space around. Apart from the beauty of the Artist's House, there is another aspect that attracts tourist here, which is the mouth-watering dishes – local and authentic ones! This is one tourist attraction in Bangkok that is difficult to come across, but the hunt is worth every bit of it.

Exploring the Artist's House

The Artist’s House sits on a canal with long tail boats seen passing by the place. The art gallery has both scrapes and other artistic masterpieces like sculptures scattered throughout the building with speckles or casually stained splashes of colourful paint on the walls. The rooms are filled with portraits, paintings, and drawings, especially the main seating area. The wooden doors usually open to ample seating spaces along the canal, not to forget the dock where visitors can sit and swing their bare feet in the water.

The Khlong Bang Luang Artist House does radiate a certain charm with beautiful potted plants hanging overhead and charming trinkets used adorning the place. The gallery is scattered with pencils, canvas, wooden work tables and any other material an artist could require for their creation. Thus, the name suits the vibe of the place. There is also a gifts section that one might be interested in.

The Artist’s House is quite a difficult location to find as it indeed is a bit off the track. It is placed along a canal on the Thorburi side of Bangkok. You can either take the boat from the Chao Phraya River to reach or a taxi Charoen Sanitwong Soi 3. You have to ride all the way to the end of the street till the 7-elven and it is a ten-minute walk from there to the canal. On reaching the canal, cross the bridge, take a left walking along the canal to finally reach Artist's House.
