Exploring Banyumala Waterfalls

From the Banyumala Twin Waterfalls car park, there is a 15 minute downward descent towards the waterfall. This can only be covered by foot. It is a beautiful bamboo trail that looks much more natural than the man-made trails down to neighbouring waterfalls like Gitgit Waterfall and Sekumpul Waterfall. It’s a gorgeous walk accompanied by the calming sound of water crashing below.

The waterfalls themselves are divided only by the rocks holding them together. There are two large waterfalls and a small waterfall that collect at a pool below. The pool is around 20 metres (65 feet) wide and the deepest point is around 2 metres (6.5 feet). The pool’s width means that dozens of swimmers can be comfortably accommodated, making it an ideal destination for large groups.

Families with children will want to keep an eye on their little ones at these parts of the pool. For those who don’t want to swim, or go too deep, the water’s edge has little rocks to sit on with water only till knee level.

Tips

1. The road down to the waterfall’s parking lot is not in the best shape and it can be a dangerous drive for inexperienced drivers, especially scooters. It’s best to hire a driver for this trip.
2. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes with good grip while visiting the waterfall as the walk from the car park can be quite steep.
3. Locals love to visit the waterfall over the weekend, making it a very crowded experience to swim here. It’s recommended to visit during weekdays if you’d like to enjoy the waterfall without having to share.
