Vinh Long has a vibe - a relaxed one. As soon as you step foot in this nondescript town in the Mekong Delta, you will physically feel your worries melt away as though you are stuck in a time lapse. The beautiful scenery coupled with the friendly locals, thatched huts, narrow lanes and fruit-laden orchards make for an exciting vacation.

Vinh Long is the perfect place to go on a relaxed holiday. This romantic town has its fair share of fun and relaxation. Vinh Long is the best place for a romantic getaway. The picturesque An Binh island is the perfect getaway spot. Crisscrossed by dozens of rivers and creeks, laden with fruit orchards, narrow bike lanes, and tourists resorts, it is the perfect place to unwind and soak in the tropical climate. An Binh also has a bonsai garden, a pier, a Chinese temple and a Catholic church. The Thanh Mieu temple is a tribute to Confucianism and to the local hero Phan Thanh Gian. Apart from this, Vinh Long has an excellent Local market and the Cai Be floating market, both of which offer insights into the lives of locals living in the area. Vinh Long has numerous street food and restaurants. One place to visit is the converted boat restaurant that is moored opposite the plaza. It offers a small ride through the Mekong and food. More on Vinh Long

Though a significant part of the population is Cantonese speaking Chinese, they do not have any stand-out customs and most of the customs are largely Vietnamese.

Vietnamese is the most commonly spoken language. Apart from that Cantonese and Khmer are also spoken. Vinh Long is quite rural and most of the locals do not understand English

Vinh Long's history is not preserved well and very little is known about this place's history. The French colonial influence can still be seen in the French colonial buildings.

An Binh island is small, nondescript and absolutely stunning. It is filled with green fields, traditional delta thatched homes, lush orchards and gardens. You can cycle through the narrow lanes and will find plenty of friendly villagers and children wave at you. Must visit places include the small village of Hoa Hinh and its small morning market and colonial era church. Another must visit location is the impressive house of Cai Cuong - the landowner who owned most of An Binh during the beginning of the twentieth century. Mediocre bicycles can be rented everywhere. This should not be an issue as the cycling is mild and enjoyable and a mediocre bicycle will do the job.

Vinh Long is a small town and hence does not have a very prominent nightlife. There are a few bars and pubs in nondescript locations which are perfect for an evening drink, but shut down before midnight. Beer Club is a great place to enjoy a beer with a friend. Apart from that Karaoke N&M is a great place to unwind and sing your heart out.

Vinh Long is a town and does not have fancy, large malls. The Vinh Long market is the one-stop destination to buy things in Vinh Long. At the Vinh Long market, you can buy everything from vegetables and fruits to souvenirs and local handicrafts. The Cai Be floating market is another place to go shopping. This market is operated entirely on boats and is indeed a unique sight.

Due to the large population of Cantonese speaking Chinese, Confucianism is a popular religion.

The cities in the Mekong Delta have a unique flair to their dishes and Vinh Long is no exception. Known for its mouthwatering and fresh food, the Vinh Long diet is something you should not miss. Cha Gio Khua (Crab Spring rolls fried golden brown to yield the perfect crunch), Mien Xao Cua Bae (Crab Noodles garnished with fresh vegetables, mushrooms and peanuts), Hu Tieu (A southern noodle soup with roasted pork, prawn, squid, shallots, peanuts and soft cooked eggs), Goi Cuon (fresh summer rolls with sweet shrimp), Pho Tai Nam (southern variety of pho with beef), Thit Kho To (pork belly served in a clay pot) are some of the authentic dishes you should not miss. Apart from this, the Mekong Delta is known for the fresh fruits it produces. Fruits such as mango, jackfruit, papaya, coconut, sapodilla and avocado are commonly available.
