Garachico

Garachico, Tenerife Overview

Once the wealthiest town in Tenerife, Garachico is a popular day trip destination where people can swim in rock pools away from the lava. It is a tranquil and serene town that is located in a deep valley flanked by forested slopes along a rocky coastline.

This town has managed to hold by its Canarian identity till now. There are no big hotels or resorts here as there are no big beaches, and this place is best suited for a day trip. Swimming in the natural volcanic coves beside the rocky coast is something that you do not get to experience anywhere else. Named because of the rock outcrop off its shore, Garachico is a peaceful and quiet town. In 1706, a major volcanic eruption destroyed the town and reduced it to a poor shadow of the former island. There are many hike trails that follow the path of the lava flow.
