Port Dickson Tourism

Port Dickson is a charming coastal city in the Negeri Sembilan region of Malaysia, south of Kuala Lumpur. Located in Peninsular Malaysia, this city is serenaded by the cool blue waters of the straits of Malacca, giving it distinctive long beaches. This makes Port Dickson a popular weekend retreat for Kuala Lumpurians and tourists alike.

A former mining town, most attractions in Port Dickson are concentrated around the coast – the beautiful beaches of Pantai Cahaya Negeri, Tanjung Tuan,Teluk Kemang, Saujana, and Bagan Pinang present a host of adventures and fun for families, adrenaline junkies, and couples. From trekking to a beautiful lighthouse at Tanjung to visting a gorgeous mangrove island at Bagan Pinang, Port Dickson is a paradise for beach bums!

Port Dickson boasts of family-friendly attractions like the Teluk Kemang Observatory where children can stargaze through a huge telescope, the local aquarium that has an interesting aquatic petting zoo, and the Ostrich Show Farm where kids can meet ostriches and other baby animals. Playtime is available aplenty at the illusions exhibit at the PD Dream World and the Wild West Indoor Park.

Historically significant forts and museums like Fort Letuk and the Army Museum complete the picture-perfect trip to Port Dickson. With a great nightlife and street food galore, this budget-friendly this resort town is a no-brainer!

Beaches in Port Dickson

Arguably the most popular attraction at Port Dickson, the stunning white sand beaches are a must-visit here. The Pantai Cahaya Negeri beach offers one of the best sunset views in all of Port Dickson, with a charming mangrove island nearby. Head over to the Tanjung Tuan Beach for some peace and quiet, and take a short hike to the lighthouse too. Enjoy a picnic at the Saujana Beach, or take a romantic stroll across the magical waters of Purnama Beach. Hike to the secluded Cermin Beach and sunbathe there, or check out the watersports at Teluk Kemang – there’s a beach for every kind of tourist here!

Nightlife of Port Dickson

While Port Dickon’s nightlife is not as thriving as that in Kuala Lumpur, there are plenty of options to let loose and party the night away. Check out the Rhapsody Lounge or the Lanun Bar to show off some dance moves, or enjoy the live music at Cumulus, Tiara Bistro Bar, or Sunshine Lounge. Belt a few tunes at Jungle Fringe Karaoke Bar, or unwind after a long day at Hotel Avilion’s open-air lounge – the options (and the cocktails) are endless!

History of Port Dickson

Locally known as Tanjung (Malay for ‘cape’), Port Dickson was a small seaside town that was famed for its tin and coal ores. Soon it grew into a charcoal-producing town which was occupied by the Portuguese and the British, and made into a harbour. The Portuguese built the Cape Rachado lighthouse in the sixteenth century, while the British constructed forts and towers. Named after the British commanding officer of the region, Port Dickson was developed into a tourist region after its beaches attracted large crowds. The resort town is now a cozy weekend retreat that is cheaper than its counterpart at Kuala Lumpur. It also has an important army base, prompting the name ‘Army Town.’
