Whitney Museum of American art situated between the high line and the Hudson River is a major attraction of the meatpacking district.

This century-old Museum specializes in preserving and exhibiting American art of the 20th century with its focus on work by living artists. More than 3000 artists have participated in the longest-running survey of American history;  the Whitney Biennial, where the finest exhibits and sculptures of the past century, as well as their recent arts, are displayed to the public. This Museum has exhibits of all varieties, colors, and artists contributing to the past 100 years of American art history with a floor (8th floor) reserved for special arts. The museum also has installations of its public art collection across the museum at 95 Horatio Street. It also features exhibits by Mexican muralists and their contemporaries; the “Vida Americana” featuring the fusion of American and Mexican art is not to be missed.
