Gorai Beach, Mumbai Overview

Located in the north suburb of Mumbai, 40 kms from the main city, Gorai Beach is one the cleanest, most tranquil and one of the most frequented beaches of Mumbai. Located near Bhayandar, on the Gorai Creek, the soothing calmness of this beach bordering the Arabian Sea, makes for a perfect leisure weekend vacation. Other than the umpteen food shacks and street food options available at the spot, the beach is also replete with resorts and beach houses. Other than the numerous water sports, camel rides, boat rides and fun picnics, you can also rent one of these cottages to have a quiet private time with your friends and family.

Dotted with beautiful palm trees and an all-around clean environment, the place is a hot favourite among tourists who want to spend a day away from the chaos and din of the city. Since the beach is located on the outskirts of the city and boasts of surreal serenity, it is best picked among young couples who are looking for some solitude in the lap of nature. Besides, the presence of tourists, beach shacks and stay-in cottages makes for amazing full moon parties at the beach which draws tourist from far and wide.

Mumbai is popular for its Ganesh Visarjan and Holi festivals. Also called as the Festival of Colours, Holi is mostly celebrated in the beach areas. Gorai Beach hosts enormous holi celebrations. With crowds of people singing and dancing to the tunes of ‘Rang Barse’, both the venue and the festival  are a favourite among the Mumbaikars. Other than Holi, Ganesh Visarjan is an elaborate affair with the immersion of the idol of Lord Ganesha in the waters. The tenth day of Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated with a lot of zeal and fervour on the beach.

We agree that any time is good for beach time but if you are looking for a crazy night of drinking, loud music and similar shenanigans, we recommend you to visit Gorai Beach at any full moon night, when they organize crazy parties. You can either party and return back to your accommodation or you can simply rent any luxury or budget hotels right there near the beach.

1. Avoid visiting the beach during the day in the months of April, May, June, July and August. It might get really sultry and you might get bad sun burns.

Located at a distance of around 40 kms from Mumbai, you can drive down to the beach through Uttan Road. Or you take a ferry from ‘Gorai Ferry Point’, 3 kms from Borivali. Hire a local rickshaw or take a bus to reach the ferry point from Borivali station.
