Villa Sentosa Melaka, Melaka Overview

Villa Sentosa Melaka is a traditional Malay house converted into a Malay living museum in Kampung Morten. Positioned near the banks of the Malacca River, it is open to the public as a private museum. The family members give a tour of the house, talking about the diverse family relics and period objects.

The word ‘ Sentosa’ stands for peace and harmony and rightly fits the name of the villa. Villa Sentosa is also known as the Malay Living Museum.

Inside Villa Sentosa

The rooms of Villa Sentosa are connected by a patio and an open courtyard, which ensures that the residents and visitors get plenty of breezes even during summers.
The building is entirely made up of word and is raised from the ground level using stilts, which ensures that rodents and water flooding does not affect the house.
Unfortunately, the kitchen has been damaged by termites, and hence, had to be renovated using the tiled floor.
Visitors are free to explore the rooms in the house, such as the guest room which is filled with antique furniture and crockery.
The house also has a ‘wedding room’ which was used by young couples to stay before they moved out.
Villa Sentosa is full of antique furniture and vintage photographs from the family members of the house.

How to Reach the Malay Living Museum

Villa Sentosa is a walking distance from the UNESCO World Heritage district of Melaka City. Visitors can choose to walk from Red Square, which will take approximately 15 minutes.

One can also take a taxi to Villa Sentosa, which is about 8 km from Melaka Airport.
