Trail Canyon Falls, Los Angeles Overview

Trail Canyon Falls is a breathtaking waterfall hike nestled amidst steep walls of the rugged western edge at San Gabriel Mountain canyons. The falls offers one of the best views of Condor Peak and Fox Mountain and is also a great spot for picnics, dirt road driving and nature trips.

Trail Canyon Falls has a distinguished Y-shaped cascade that plunges onto a shallow wading pool afront, leaving a stunning center rock bed where visitors often stop to click photos. January to April is the best time to visit this waterfall as it is well-fed by melting spring snow during these months. You can spot several Lawrence’s Goldfinch flocking here with other vibrant birds. The trail begins with ruins of quaint, old cabins and continues to the paved road ahead before merging with a single track atop Golden Creek’s bed. Sycamores and oaks populate the riparian creek while chaparrals can be seen dotting the canyon walls. Colorful blossoms are added in late fall on the horseshoe shaped walls of the lower tier along with the rest of the forest which boasts of deciduous trees year round. Hikers may not find much forest cover at the trail, so bringing sunblocks and gears is recommended.
