Griffith Park, Los Angeles Overview

The Griffith Park is an iconic urban park in Los Angeles, one of the largest in North America and home to many attractions.

The Griffith Park was constructed initially on land bequeathed by Colonel Griffith J. Griffith to the people of Los Angeles, and has since expanded greatly due to donations and acquisitions. Today, it is one of the most popular and an important landmarks of LA. The Griffith Park is home to several attractions. The "Hollywood" sign is perhaps among the best known signs in the world! Then comes the famous Los Angeles Zoo and Botanical Gardens. This sprawling campus has tons of exhibits of animals and gorgeous collections of gardens. To be more precise, the zoo is home to nearly 250 species of animals, and the garden has over 800 species of plants. The park is home to a famous open concert area, the Greek Theatre. It houses nearly 6,000 people and is one of the best equipped amphitheatres in LA, and of course, the famous Griffith Observatory sits in this park as well. Take a bicycle tour of the park, or take one majestically on a horse. For the children, the pony rides are a brilliant and fun activity.
