Kandy to Ella by car
The quickest way to get to Ella from Kandy is by car. Either a privately owned or by a hired taxi. The distance from Kandy to Ella is 140 kilometers. It takes about 2 hours and 35 minutes to reach the destination by car via Mahaweli Raja Mawatha/B492 and Mahiyangana Rd/B36.
Visitors can take the other two routes, as well, but the time taken to reach is a bit more than the first route. The second route takes about 3 hours and 15 minutes to reach through A5 and the third one takes 3 hours and 40 minutes to reach via Haragama Rd/B413 and A5.
Kandy to Ella by bus
There are daily direct buses operating from Kandy to Ella. Take the direct bus from Kandy to Katharagama. This bus goes through Ella. Alternatively, there is also another bus available from Kandy to Badulla or Bandarawela. From there, take another bus to Ella. The bus journey is about 5 hours and 45 minutes.
