Little Adam's Peak, Ella Overview

Little Adam's Peak is the mini version of the pilgrimage mountain site of central Sri Lanka called Adam's Peak. It is just a short tuk-tuk ride away from Ella town. The trails pass through lush tea plantations, gradually becoming steeper, but the hike is easy and offers stunning panoramic views. The hike is popular for both sunrise and sunset.

The altitude of Little Adam's Peak is 1141 meters, and the total time required for the hike and sightseeing will be a maximum of 3 hours. On the way up there, one can see some lush green tea plantations with smiling tea leaf pickers, colorful birds, flowers, and flying eagles. Little Adam's Peak provides a less exhausting and more pleasant alternative as a hiking spot to those who cannot hike on a mountain as big as Adam's Peak but also want to see a breathtaking view from a mountain's top.

Tips

One should start hiking around 7:00 or 8:00 AM, when the temperatures are lower, and there will be a more pleasant walk to the top.
There is no need to hire a guide and invest a lot of money, just following the straightforward path is enough.
The most challenging thing on this walk can be the heat and the sun, so one should take plenty of water and some snacks. Take small breaks along the way, wear a hat, sunscreen and sunglasses and the journey will be fine.

Food And Restaurants at Little Adam's Peak

1. Ravana Heights
This place serves dishes with the fusion of Thai and Sri Lankan food. Dining here costs up to 200 LKR per person. Quite affordable!

2. Adam’s Breeze
This restaurant located very close to Adam’s peak serves Sri Lankan and Asian food along with western options like healthy soups and salads. This place is vegetarian-friendly with its range of vegetarian food options, and they also fulfil one’s demand for gluten-free food. A full meal here can cost up to 600- 800 LKR, which is quite reasonable. Some of the recommended dishes to try on a visit here are chicken kottu, Sri Lankan curry, samosas, kottu with cheese, vegetables and egg fried rice, passion fruit juice and tasty ginger beer.

3. Art Cafe Umbrella
This restaurant has a convenient location from Little Adam’s peak and is beautifully decorated with cute wall paintings and some gift postcards by the owner himself. They serve lovely coffee, European and Sri Lankan cuisine along with vegan and gluten-free options. The prices on the menu range from 290 LKR to 1700 LKR with reasonably large food portions. Some of the suggested dishes to try here are banana pancakes with ice cream for 390 Rupees, cheese roti/kottu, chicken noodles and sausages.

How To Reach Little Adam's Peak

Once one reaches Ella, there are two trailheads to start the hike for Little Adam’s top. One of them is next to Ella Flower Garden Resort on the main road, and the other is located at 98 acres resort and is marked by a white Buddha statue. The beginning of the trail is moderately inclined through tea plantations and is marked on the whole way with well-maintained paths and stairs.
