The Three Kings Monument, standing tall in Chiang Mai's administrative centre, is a bronze statue commemorating Phaya Mengrai, the founder of Chiang Mai, and his two friends, Phaya Ngam Meuang of Phayao and Phaya Khun Ramkhamhaeng of Sukhothai. Revered as a shrine, this structure is popularly used as a representative symbol of the city. The square in front of the statue is often the site of festivals and local celebrations.
