Gurudwara Sahib, Chennai Overview

A cleanly maintained Gurudwara, located at a calm distance from the central hustle of Chennai, was built in 1949. Gurudwara Sahib is well known for its services of langar, low-cost rooms, peaceful environment and gentle learning of the Sikh culture and its value.

It is a frequently visited Gurudwara as it celebrates all Sikh festivals and serves free langar on Sundays. The Gurudwara also manages another historical Gurudwara in the town of Rameshwaram. The Gurudwara is famous for its Common kitchen wherein anybody can come and enjoy the free food served by the Gurudwara. It was founded by Lieutenant-Colonel Gill, D. G. Prisons. Its location in the T. Nagar is also very favourable as the street itself is a famous tourist attraction in Chennai. Many students who come to give entrance exams in Chennai prefer lodging in this Guruduwara. One can also contribute by volunteering to cook for the langar or serve at the langar on Sundays. It is also reffered to as the Sikh Temple, Sri Guru Nanak Sat Sangh Sabha Gurudwara in the locality.

The Gurudwara Temple is easily accessible with well-constructed roads and transport facilities. If one is driving from T. Nagar, it is located in the left lane of Bala Mandir School. The nearest bus stop is Gemini Sun Plaza (300 m), and even autorickshaws provide rides to the Gurudwara.
