Museum of African American History, Boston Overview

The Museum of African American History is one of the country's largest museums. It is solely dedicated to telling the story of African Americans throughout the colonial period, during the 19th century. The museum's basic aim is to show the visitors the hardships of life and culture of the African Americans during the 19th century.

Located on Joy St. in Boston, is the native museum of the African Americans. the museum is filled with cultural exhibits and a bunch of stories to tell. With the help of exhibits, artifacts, sculptures, paintings the museum tries to portray the lifestyle, education, worships, traditions, and how they politically advocated their way into the struggle for freedom. The African Meeting room at the museum is one of the largest in the country, which was originally a school that was made solely for the purpose of the education of these people. The museum also has other facilities and programs for the visitors and students who come here for educational purposes.

Programs offered by the Museum.

The Museum of African History has a variety of educational programs that are available for students, children, and teachers alike. These programs include interactive activities that explain various incidents and other things of historical importance. These programs include:-

School and Group Visit - School and Group visits are usually for groups of not more than 30. Larger groups can also be accommodated on demand. This service is available from Monday to Friday. The tours can be 60-90 minutes long.
Program for students - The program for students is further divided into various other programs that are different for different age groups. These programs include The Abiel Smith School CLassroom for kids and The Spoke here: Abolitionist’s debate for grades 10 to 12. The programs are very interactive and fun and allow kids to learn easily and understand the history of the people.
Program for teachers - The Museum of African-History holds the annual teacher and faculty summer institutes. The summit dwells into depths of the museum’s history and each year, has a new theme related to which it designed its annual summit.
Collaborative programs - The museum of African history also has collaborative opportunities and partners to spread its message and educational products to the masses. It partners with various schools to help them provide better education to their students about the history of the African-Americans.
Lastly, the museum also holds an annual award ceremony where it provides scholarships and awards to people who contribute to the museum. It also promoted literary works among its people and gave them recognition and opportunities.

History of the Museum.

The Museum of African History was formed in the 1800s at four different sites in New England. However, it only started displaying its exhibits and public gathering in 1963. the nonprofit organization works towards showcasing the details of the native African Americans. The museum traditionally began as the African Meetinghouse in the 1800s as a commonplace for African Americans to meet and pray. The museum has always been a platform for kids and adults to explore the rich cultural heritage of the black people and their lives in the 19th century.
