Wat Ratchabophit, Bangkok Overview
Built in 1869, Wat Ratchabophit near the Grand Palace is King Rama V's royal temple, built around a 43-metre bell-shaped chedi in the Sri Lankan manner, tiled in orange and topped with a gilded ball. Handmade mosaic tiles cover the outer walls, and the ordination hall inside is gilded in the Italian style Rama V saw on a visit to Europe, its door and window panels worked in black lacquer. A royal cemetery lies on the western side.
