Benjasiri Park, Bangkok Overview

Benjasiri Park is an invigorating garden that sprawls on the Sukhumvit Road in the Khlong Toei District of Bangkok. Also spelled as Benchasiri Park, it boasts a skateboard area, a swimming pool, an outdoor gym, and a jogging track. Built around a stunning ornamental lake, it boasts of 12 brilliant examples of contemporary sculptures handcrafted by some phenomenally talented Thai artists. This park is also dubbed as the “Queen’s Park,” as on 12 August 1992, the 60th birthday of the Queen Sirikit was celebrated at Benjasiri Park, and since then it is famous as the Queen’s Park.

Built on 11.6 acres of land, and located conveniently close to Emporium shopping complex, with the presence of trees in the Benchasiri Park campus and well-sheltered walkways ensures that it is crowded, even under the harsh sun. People visit here to generally take shelter from the sweltering heat outside, read a book, throw food to the pigeons, or just simply soak in the sound of the swishing wind. The Benjasiri Park has a simple and plain architecture with the entrance embellished by a huge golden image of Queen Sirikit.

Playground: The playground has running tracks, inflatable walls to climb and a huge ground for sports that enables smooth execution of group games and adventure sports.

Swimming Pool: There is actually no charge for using the Swimming Pool at Benjasiri Park. Parents are mostly seen introducing swimming as a sport to their children. It is well-maintained and a decent pool expanded in a dimension of 12.5 × 25 metres)

Sports Area: Blanketed under sky-soaring ageless trees, the sports area is huge with several outdoor sports rink and courts such as Volleyball, Basketball and skate rink.

Activities at Benchasiri Park

Besides children play and adult exercises, the park is known for some spiritually and emotionally uplifting activities such as:

Dhamma ni suan: It is a way of making confession for the people who have trouble visiting a temple in any way. The activity takes place every Sunday from 7:00 AM to 9:00 AM that invites Buddhists to listen to the sermon and make merits.

Dontri ni suan: On every Saturday and Sunday, the people in the park can enjoy listening to various Thai and International music pieces in order to relax and unwind. It is one of the most interesting activities in the part.

Festivals Celebrated at Queen's Park

Benjasiri Park is very popular among travellers and tourists, also because it is quite a friendly place. It is known for various events and celebration that demands no entry cost. The Annual Thai festival Songkhran and the Loy Krathong festival are two major festivals which witness a pomp celebration in the park. Loy Krathong festival is a joyful festival where locals float their handmade baskets in the central ornamental pond.

Best Time to Visit

Since the park is pretty compact, well-maintained, and clean, it is packed throughout the day. The daytimes witness mothers with their children playing together around the swing or the slides or the caretakers strolling in leisure. Evenings are considered as the golden hours at the park when the entire campus come to life. The temperature remains cooler and the residents from and enter the park for exercising, relaxing and engaging in activities like jogging, aerobics, basketball game etc.

How to Reach Benjasiri Park

Benjasiri Park is situated between the Emporium department store and the five-star hotel chain Marriott. The exact location is Sukhumvit Road, Phrom Phong, Bangkok. It is quite easy to locate as it is strategically at the foot of the Phrom Phong station and the large image of Queen Sirikit catches attention. The location is so commercial and downright that reaching Benchasiri Park is a piece of cake. One can just take BTS Skytrain at Phrom Phong, the park is opposite to the Phrom Phong station, somewhere between Soi 22 and soi 24.

Tips

You can avoid carrying a load of food and water bottle if you are open to eating out since the park’ either ends see a string of cafe serving to the commuters and regular visitors daily.
