Semarapura Market, Bali Overview

Semarapura Market, on Jalan Puputan in the old Klungkung capital, is a working local market rather than a tourist one, selling fruit, everyday goods, food and handwoven fabric. It is the main place in east Bali to buy endek, the local ikat weave, along with batik and songket, and prices are a fraction of what the same cloth costs in Ubud or Seminyak. Locals come here for ceremonial cloth, so the selection is genuine rather than souvenir-grade. Go early, when the market is busiest and the produce is fresh.

It is also known as Klungkung Market, and the textile section is the one referred to locally as Pasar Endek Klungkung. Semarapura is the current name of the town of Klungkung, which is why the market appears under both names. The Kertha Gosa pavilion and the Klungkung palace ruins are a short walk away and are usually combined with a market visit.
