Puliyarmala Jain Temple, Wayanad Overview
Puliyarmala Jain Temple is dedicated to Ananthanatha Swami, a Tirthankar, and is also known as Anantnath Swami Temple. It's one of the oldest temples in Kerala, built in the 13th century, and is an example of Jain temple architecture. The temple is located in Puliyarmala in Wayanad district, Kerala. According to local accounts, Tipu Sultan stored ammunition inside the temple premises, which is why it's also known as 'Tipu Fort.' The temple shows Dravidian-style influence in its carvings on the doors and stupa, and has a peaceful, well-finished interior. It houses one of the largest brass idols in the region and a carved statue of Lord Mahavir at the front door. It's about 6 km from Kalpetta and can be reached by local bus or taxi.
