Located on the Black Sea coast of northeastern Turkey, Trabzon is a city with an epic history. Known for its distinctive churches, mosques and natural marvels, Trabzon, formerly known as Trebizond, is the second-largest city in the Black coast region. Trabzon is an excellent place to travel to for admirers of nature, history and architecture.

It is most popular for visiting the Sumela Monastery, Ataturk Pavilion and the Hagia Sophia (not to be confused with Istanbul). Many people also visit Uzungol, a village near Trabzon, on a day trip. Surrounded by lush green valleys, streams and beaches, Trabzon is unfazed by the modernization of the world. Its vintage churches and mosques, located in its old walled quarter, narrate stories from the ancient world with their intricate designs and paintings. In addition, several hammams and beaches nearby can be enjoyed all year round. Rightly known as the pearl of the Black Sea, Trabzon is also popular as an adventure sports hub, be it rafting, hiking, mountain biking and other winter sports like skiing.

Trabzon has plenty of accommodation options near the city center. These are available in all budgets. The cheapest hotels are available from Ataturk Square, towards the port. However, many of them function as unofficial brothels, so be careful when booking.

Most of the historical sites in Trabzon are walkable, and located in the city center. To best explore the attractions, plan walking tours of Meydan square and the walled city. Traffic is restricted in these areas, making it easy to walk around.

The city center is a great place to experience nightlife in Trabzon. There are not many bars and clubs to enjoy the nightlife in this town, but a few places are open till morning.
Trabzon is well-known for its organic food.
Kunduracilar Avenue is the hub of Trabzon to shop.
You can purchase local dried seasonings, tea, and traditional teapots as souvenirs.
