Food in Teluk Bahang

Seafood is the hallmark of Teluk Bahang with a great assortment of fishes, crabs, lobsters and prawns. Nasi Kandar is one of the most famous mouth-watering rice-based dishes served with curry and is a must-try. Char Kway Teow is another nationally famous dish which wins over the heart of all tourists. The local restaurants serve an expansive range of local food with appetizing aroma. Though the well-known restaurant “The End of the World” was destroyed in the Tsunami, another restaurant by the same name and serving the same taste is a sine qua non. However, most of these restaurants and the local places only accept cash.

Tips & Things to Know

  • Since Teluk Bahang is more of a rustic relaxation place, the monetary exchange is usually cash except in big hotels and plaza. You must carry enough cash to meet the daily needs of commutation, food and activities. You can withdraw cash at the ATM in Penang Airport.
  • The area does not have good wifi connection except for some of the hotels which offer complimentary wifi for the stayers.
  • Physical contact with tourists is not appreciated by the locals. Contact with opposite sex in public is also not a social norm.
