Sangeen Darwaza, Srinagar Overview

The Sangeen Darwaza is located in the northern part of Srinagar city, accessible easily from the city center. It is one of the historically crucial gates of the Hari Parbat Palace. Constructed in the Mughal Empire by Akbar, it is one of the two surviving gates along with Kathi Darwaza. The fort is a preserved site by the Archeological Survey of India due to its rich history.

The initial structure of the fort was constructed by the Mughal king to offer villagers accommodation and protection. Though it lacks the details and inscriptions that Kathi Darwaza has, it is still one of the most essential monuments. The gate is face-to-face with the Maqdoom Shrine and leads to multiple crucial locations like the Sharika Temple, Badamwari Bagh, etc.

In one trip, you can enter through the Sangeen Darwaza and explore the Hari Parbat Fort, then return to also witness the Kathi Darwaza. The Sangeen Darwaza is placed in a Tibetan locality, so tourists can also enjoy the local delicacies like momos, laphing, etc. It is rare to see tourists here than in other areas because it is less known among people.
